Infertility and what it is
Infertility is when a couple cannot conceive a child after two years of having regular unprotected sex; infertility affects around 5 percent of British couples.
There are many reasons why a person may be infertile; possible reasons include medical problems, stress, obesity, lifestyle factors, medication and sexually transmitted infections. In most cases, there is a medical reason for infertility; for women possible medical problems may include ovulation disorders including polycystic ovarian syndrome, hormone imbalance, problems with the structure of the fallopian tubes or the womb and conditions which affect the structures of the reproductive system, including endometriosis and pelvic inflammatory disease.
For men, infertility is predominantly a result of an abnormality with the semen; common problems include low sperm count and abnormally shaped sperm.

Lifestyle factors, including heavy drinking, smoking, taking drugs and eating an unhealthy diet can also affect fertility; making simple changes to your lifestyle can improve your chances of conceiving, as well as being extremely beneficial for your general health.
There has been media hype surrounding the safety of procedures involving radiation and laser technology; however, for popular treatments including tattoo removal and laser hair removal, there is very little risk of infertility and the procedures are considered to be very safe if carried out by a qualified, approved technician.
